Provo housing runs on contracts, and contracts end together. When April hits, thousands of leases in a few square miles expire the same week, and everything you need to move out, trucks, friends, storage units, cleaning checks, gets scarce simultaneously. The fix is not hustle during the crunch; it’s sequencing before it.
Three weeks out
Read your contract’s checkout terms now, not checkout day. Cleaning check standards, checkout appointment windows, and what “broom clean” means in your complex are all written down, and the deposit deductions come straight from that list.
Book the things that sell out. Storage units near campus fill up. Cleaning check appointments in the last two days fill up. If you need a truck for the big stuff, book the window now; every service in the valley, ours included, has more requests than trucks on the last Saturday.
Start the sell pile. List furniture on Marketplace and KSL three weeks out, not three days. April floods the listings and prices collapse as the deadline approaches. Early listers sell; late listers donate.
Two weeks out
Sort everything into four piles: coming with you, selling, donating, dumping. The four-pile sort is the whole game; every hour spent sorting saves two on moving day.
Mission call or summer abroad? Storage runs are their own trip. A truckload to a storage unit early beats cramming it into the final weekend.
Eat the pantry. Two weeks is exactly enough time to eat down the food you’d otherwise haul or trash.
Move-out week
Donate early in the week. The DI docks get slammed on the final weekend. A midweek donation run means no line and no “we’re full” turnaway.

Your actual stuff is one truckload. A student apartment’s keepers, mattress, desk, dresser, boxes, bike, fit in one pickup load. If you booked the window early, this part takes an hour. If your family is driving down with a trailer, this is what they’re taking; if not, a truck and driver does it without burning a favor.
Clean to the checklist, then the checkout appointment. Photograph the empty rooms after cleaning. If a deposit dispute happens, timestamped photos end it.
The one-line version
Everything scarce in the last 72 hours is abundant three weeks early. Book the truck, the storage, and the cleaning check while nobody wants them, sell while listings are thin, donate midweek, and April becomes an errand instead of an event.
